Kim Kardashian speaks on ‘protecting’ children from Kanye West controversies
Kim Kardashian recently spoke out on the Angie Martinez IRL podcast about her efforts to shield her children from the news surrounding her divorce from their father, Kanye West, and his controversies.
In the hour-long interview, Kardashian stated that she felt that her family and she carried a burden of ‘negative energy’ directed towards her family. Martinez agreed, adding that the burden was especially difficult for Kardashian due to her highly-publicized relationship and divorce from Kanye West.
Kim Kardashian speaks on co-parenting with Kanye West
“I mean, I feel like I’ve felt a little bit of separation since I’ve – I filed for divorce like two years ago,” Kardashian stated, referring to the controversies surrounding Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West. “So I started to slowly feel that separation.”
“But, you know, I think that that will always follow me,” she continued.
Kardashian also affirmed that she felt attacked by Ye “all the time” in the news. Despite this, she refrains from speaking out about Ye’s actions and discussing it within her home as she is “protecting her kids.”
“I definitely protected him, and I still will in the eyes of my kids, for my kids.” Kardashian said. “In my home, my kids don’t know anything that goes on [in] the outside world.”
Kardashian admitted that she knows that she cannot protect her children forever, stating, “I know I’m so close to that not happening, but while it’s still that way, I will protect that to the end of the earth as long as I can.”
However, her endeavor does not come without personal difficulty.
“If we’re riding to school and they want to listen to their dad’s music, no matter what we’re going through, no matter what is happening in the world, I have to have that smile on my face and blast his music and sing along with my kids and act like nothing’s wrong,” Kardashian said. “As soon as I drop them off, I can have a good cry.”
“Coparenting, it’s really fucking hard,” she added.
“But I had the best dad and the best memories and the greatest experience, and that’s all I want for my kids,” Kardashian told Martinez. “As long as they can have that, that’s what I would want for them.”
“So like, if they don’t know things that are being said, or what’s happening in the world, why would I ever bring that energy to them?” Kardashian said.
“That’s real heavy, heavy, grown-up shit that they’re not ready to deal with. And when they are, we’ll have those conversations… but until then, I’ll do anything to keep their lives as normal as possible.”
