Clorox recalls 37 million scented Pine-sol, fearing bacteria contamination
Clorox recalled nearly 37 million bottles of scented Pine-Sol cleaning products due to a harmful bacteria that can cause severe effects on individuals with weak immune systems. On Tuesday, Clorox started its voluntary recall.
The cleaning-agent company confirmed some of their products could contain the bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is a type of bacteria that could cause harm to people with existing immune system problems. In addition, this bacteria can also affect those with external medical accessories. The Consumer Product Safety Commission can pose “a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment.”
The CDC also noted that the bacteria could cause severe infections in the lungs, blood, and other body parts. Pseudomonas aeruginosa usually is around the environment, particularly in the soil and water. The bacteria can enter the body through the eyes, open wounds, or breathing. Furthermore, the Consumer Product Safety Commission noted that people with healthy immunity are normally unaffected.
What Pine-Sol products to avoid and watch out for
According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and the cleaning agent maker, not all the variants have potential bacteria contamination. The recalled products include:
- Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaners (in Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, Lemon Fresh, and Orange Energy scents)
- Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaners (in Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, and Lemon Fresh scents)
- Clorox Professional Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh Cleaners
In addition, the products consumers should look at should have a UPC code of “A422249.”This code means the production dates of these products are before September 2022. You can find a complete list of the UPCs on Pine-Sol’s website.
Pine-Sol confirmed on its website, “We are conducting this recall to safeguard your health and well-being. Importantly, Original Pine-Sol (Pine scent) is not included in this recall, and you may continue safely using it as intended.”
