What to Expect from ‘House of the Dragon Season 2’

/ 08:38 AM October 24, 2022

Three years after the first Thrones franchise came out, the House of the Dragon launched. Now, with all the violin ringings, and the sound of the Red Wedding, the prequel has ended and is heading to its next season. Here’s what’s next for all the Game of Thrones fans.

HBO debuted House of the Dragon on August 21 with a plot set around two centuries before Daenerys Targaryen’s relentless pursuit of the Iron Throne. The House of the Dragon revolves around Khaleesi’s ancestors – House Targaryen. They are the dragon-riding kingdom that ruled over Westeros until before the Game of Thrones era.

As the last episode of season 1 wrapped up, the long-anticipated civil war, the “Dance of the Dragons,” has almost started but still not yet. While every viewer sat for the series’ slow pace, thinking that the conflict between Rhaenyra and Aegon II on Visery’s empty throne, season 1 set the plot on a two-year war that will name who will be the next King of Westeros.

After the House of the Dragon premiere, HBO announced its plan to renew the show. The streaming giant noted its immense popularity bringing in the largest audience in HBO’s history. In addition, there are also rumors that the series will head onto season 2 and even season 3.

House of Dragon star Matt Smith hinted at those rumors on a podcast following the Episode 6 time jump. “Once we make the jump, we’re in. I’m pretty sure from then on there are not any big huge time jumps, particularly next season and the one after.”

Furthermore, despite all the rants about the first season due to its whirlwind-like jump of events and text-book built storyline, its hold up of interesting events made the fans ask for more. Now that the first season has ended, here’s what’s next for the GOT fans.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Release

According to a UK BT report, the production for season two has already started. And the filming will might start in spring, as other sources have reported. Season 1 began filming in 2021 then it aired after 15 months. With that calculation, season two will probably air in the summer or fall of 2024. Fingers crossed, let’s hope for faster production.

House of the Dragon Season 2 storyline

The Game of Thrones prequel has its spotlight on the book Fire & Blood. It’s a historical compilation of the Targayens and the Westeros. Moreover, the book also has all the huge events of season 1 and the other events after the death of King Viserys I. It also includes the civil war.

Thus, it’s more likely that season two will feature the events after two years, 129-131 AC. This period will end the decision of who will succeed on the Iron Throne. Although it’s still uncertain how much of the Civil War will be shown in season two, it’s probable that the next season will have a more basic chronology sans the time jumps.

The characters that will return for the next season

It’s likely to expect that the same characters from season 1 will still be present. These include the Hightowers, the Targayens, and the Velaryons. Furthermore, expect the Starks in the next season. The northern kingdom played a major role in the approaching civil war.
