5 delicious Lenten meals

The Lenten season may be a time to banish meat from your diets for a little while, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your meals either. A variety of meat-free meals can be enjoyed during this week-long event to help curb your cravings for the forbidden.

Salads
A nice, clean salad is a healthy and refreshing way to cleanse your palate while you cleanse your spirit during the Holy Week. Look online for some great, “meatless” recipes for sauces you can use to spice up your bowl, or you can even try stir/deep-frying them for a tasty treat.

Whether fried, shredded, soupy, or even baked, fish can be a tasty and enjoyable dish you can dine on heartily during the holy season. With a variety of dishes to be made, be careful not to overindulge in very rich dishes as this is still a time of humility and sacrifice.

Cheesy Foods

Cheese is the salty, delicious food item that tastes really good while also not containing any form of meat in it (it has milk, a byproduct of cows). Mac n’ Cheese, veggie pizza, and maybe a grilled cheese sandwich can help tide you over during the time of fasting.

Pasta/Noodles

Made out of wheat, noodles are definitely a great way to fill your tummy for the holiday. A variety of toppings and sauces make this a very versatile meal; but try to avoid any meat-filled sauces and such. Try going for a creamy white sauce or red tomato paste with a sprinkling of herbs.

Soup/Stew

If slurping is your thing, a nice soup or stew can help you feel full. Some soups, coupled with some bread, can make for delightful meals while staying away from the forbidden food items. A tasty vegetable or herb-based soup or stew is best for enjoying during this holy event.

You don’t always have to consume meat in order to have a hearty meal. Just mix and match or find alternatives to these ideas and make yourself a list of recipes and meals you and your family will want to try during this Lent!
