Read below to find out more about giving CBD products to your cat.

CBD For Cats

To understand if CBD works for your cat, you should first know what CBD does in general. So let us start with the working of CBD.

The plants in the cannabis family contain a lot of cannabinoids and CBD is just one among them. CBD is found to have various therapeutic benefits for human beings. Our body has an endocannabinoid system (ECS) which is responsible for various body functions. CBD binds with the receptors of the ECS to provide us the benefits.

Cats also have ECS, so CBD may work on cats almost similar to humans. Cats cannot efficiently absorb CBD oil in their digestive systems. Normally, CBD oil is mixed with digestible oils like MCT oils for better absorption in the cat’s digestive system.

Take care when buying a CBD product for your cat. Don’t just give any CBD product to your cat. There are CBD products with safe CBD strength and suitable ingredients for the cat’s digestive system. So before buying a CBD product for your cat, make sure that they provide organic CBD and that the company is trustworthy.

Is Consumption Of CBD Safe For Cats?

Many dog owners are using CBD treats for their dogs and this doesn’t cause a problem. This doesn’t mean that the same CBD product is safe for cats. Cats and dogs process food differently. So you have to research specifically whether the product you are going to use is safe for cats. If your cat shows any side effects after consuming CBD, it is better to stop giving them CBD treats.

Many studies investigate the effects of CBD on cats, but sadly none of them are conclusive. Also, if your cat is provided with other medications, it is better to avoid CBD products. There is a chance of CBD reacting to the other medicine and if the reaction has a toxic byproduct, it can cause harm to your cat. You should consult with the veterinarian before giving CBD products to your cat.
