Filipino now the top non-official language spoken at home in 3 Canadian provinces
Filipino is the top non-official language spoken at home in the Canadian provinces of Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Yukon, according to 2021 Census data released on Aug. 17.
In fact, there are now more residents of Saskatchewan, Canada whose mother tongue is Filipino than there are people who grew up speaking indigenous languages, according to a CTV News analysis of the Census.
Of Saskatchewan’s 1,116,045 residents, Tagalog/Filipino speakers make up 2.6% while 2.5% identify an indigenous language as their mother tongue.
Saskatchewan has 32,340 Filipinos, Manitoba 79,820 and Yukon 1, 190, according to the Philippine Embassyin Ottawa.
