A couple in Skowhegan, Maine got in trouble with the police for resisting arrest, after first getting into a bar fight Sunday night.

Authorities arrested 26-year-old Paul LeClair after they zapped him with a taser and pinned him to the ground, local media Central Maine reported. Minutes later, his supposed girlfriend, 31-year-old Kasey Knowles, allegedly assaulted one of the police for arresting her partner. She was also arrested.

It all started when police responded to a call complaining about a fight in a bar. LeClaire allegedly confronted another man and got into the fight. When officers arrived, both LeClair and Knowles were seen already outside the bar, yelling and with “visible minor injuries.”

One of the officers, Jacob Boudreau, tried to issue a trespass warning to LeClair. Due to his level of intoxication, LeClair “remained defiant and continued to yell at everyone.”

Boudreau’s colleagues, Sgt. Herbert Oliver and Officer Ryan Blakeney, then quickly came to help him when LeClair refused to follow orders.

“Paul proceeded to fight with both Officer Blakeney and Officer Boudreau,” the report quoted Skowhagen Police Chief David Buckham. “He was taken to the ground where he continued to resist the officers. Sgt. Oliver arrived on scene and Paul continued to fight with officers.”

LeClair will face charges such as failure to submit on arrest, assaulting a law enforcer, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

Knowles was also charged with obstructing government administration, disorderly conduct and for assaulting a law enforcer, after she attacked Blakeney by punching him from behind and pulling on his uniform and equipment.

LeClair and Knowles were released on a $1,000 and $300 bail, respectively (around P52,100 and P15,600), after they were taken to the Somerset County Jail for booking. Katrina Hallare/JB
