North Texas couple adopts 7 Filipino siblings
North Texas couple Chris and Jessica Milam of Denton County adopted seven Filipino siblings, making it official on Wednesday, June 8, after an eight-month process.
Aged 5 to 12, the two brothers and five sisters had been living in three separate foster care homes for more than two years.
“All of them were like, ‘Can we just come home with you today, can we just come today?” Jessica Milam told Fox 4 News of one her first meetings with them.
“They were trying to negotiate coming sooner and stuff. So, they were just so excited to really be together, but also to have parents that were just going to be their parents forever,” Jessica Milam added.
“I’m going to find that it is in the best interest of these children that the adoption take place. I will grant the adoption, grant the name change, and seal the record. Congratulations,” said the judge at a hearing.
One of the children told Fox 4 News, “It means we’re going to be there forever, we’re going to have a family to take care of us until we’re adults and can take care of ourselves.”
