Another Fil-Am hoopster a prospect in the 2nd round of NBA draft
Another Filipino American was invited to the recent NBA Combine in Chicago and projected to be picked in the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft.
Ronald “Ron” Harper Jr., listed as a 6-foot-5 forward, joined two other prospects with Filipino roots –7-foot-3 Kai Sotto and Remy Martin, who won the US NCAA Division 1 crown with the Kansas Jayhawks last April.
Harper played for Rutgers University, which he helped bring to two back-to-back NCAA bids. He is the son of NBA legend Ron Harper and Maria Pizarro, who is of Filipino descent.
Harper’s father won three NBA championships with Michael Jordan and the famed Chicago Bulls in the ‘90s, and had an outstanding 15-year career with the Los Angeles Clippers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Harper Jr.’s mother, Maria, played Division 1 basketall at the University of New Orleans. His maternal grandfather, Manuel, played in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico for the Philippines.
