SAN MATEO, California — The San Mateo County Youth Commission is looking for passionate young people between the ages of 13 and 20 to join a strong, energetic group of youth who want to make a difference in their community.

Currently, only 1 out of 25 members of the commission reside in north San Mateo County.

The San Mateo County Youth Commission is an officially appointed 25-member youth-led advisory body to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. It can improve the lives of all young people throughout San Mateo County, by offering youth perspectives on important issues facing the community. It works directly with the Board of Supervisors and County departments as a voice for youth in the county.

The Youth Commission meets from 6:15-8:15 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month in San Mateo and 6:15-8:15 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month in Redwood City. Attendance at these meetings is mandatory.

Every year the Youth Commission forms new committees to work on specific projects selected by the Commission members. Those Committees usually fall into to the following five subject areas:  Teen Stress and Happiness; Immigrant Youth; Adolescent Needs; Legislative; Environmental Protection.

Apply by FRIDAY, JUNE 2, 2017. Applications must be completed in one session; applications can be saved during the process.

There are four sections, the generic County of San Mateo Boards & Commissions questions, seven essay questions, an additional request for personal information, and verification of ability to meet the commitments of the Youth Commission.
