Gearing up for the summer holiday

The fact that summer is just around the corner will surely have most of us looking forward to adventures. But before all the splashing in the beach or pool, picnics, gardening, and more fun under the sun, here are some things you’ll need to work on for that summer-ready holiday:

Have travel documents checked

When traveling to a new place, it is important to be equipped with proper documents, particularly passport and valid ID. Generally, a valid passport should at least be 6-months valid when traveling internationally. There is a slim chance that a visa will be approved if the passport is set to expire in 6 months or less. Always be reminded of this rule to avoid any last-minute mishaps. Also, be sure to bring with you copies of your birth certificate, certificate of employment (if applicable), and other valid IDs for any verification purposes that would come up.

Be protected

When summer protection is brought up, two things come to mind: sunscreen and insurance. While you’re dying to get a glorious tan, remember to protect your skin from the UVA rays while outdoors since the strong energy from the sun can damage the skin. Worse, too much exposure without proper means of skin protection can also cause skin cancer. Another great way to be protected during vacations is travel insurance. To travel, whether for a quick business trip, dream vacation, or to study abroad, would mean you’re bound to come across a few unexpected mishaps. Purchasing a travel insurance helps you deal with these things in the long run.

Notify your bank

Another thing you can do that will make your travels easy, breezy, and worry-free is by giving your bank or credit card company a heads up about your trip. Any out-of-the-ordinary interaction, like a payment that reflects overseas, could be misinterpreted as a fraudulent transaction and might end having to suspend your account. Avoid this inconvenience with a quick travel advisory and be in complete control of your credit card for as long as needed while you’re on the go.

Settle dues (bills)

Be one step ahead and pay your bills in advance (or set automatic payments if available). However, if you’ll be away for some time, there’s a great way of handling your bills while traveling — signing up for paperless billing. What are the benefits of having your electronic bills sent directly to your preferred email address? Reduced cost (shipping, service, etc.), environmental sustainability, easier archiving, and the convenience of bank-internet partnership that let you pay bills online, anywhere, anytime.

Plan ahead

Your budget and schedule play big roles when planning a big trip. Saving for your summer dream vacation is important, but having a rough estimate of how much you might spend on your journey is something you can truly benefit from. Make sure that your schedule also includes finishing any leftover responsibilities or jobs you might have leftover before the journey. When going as a group, it is important to keep tabs on everyone who is coming due to various factors such as work schedule, availability, individual budgets, and travel preferences. Keeping your eyes peeled for accommodation deals, tour packages or promo airfares will be of great help in saving time and money.

Ready your home

The changing of the season also welcomes various changes in the house. Check your air conditioner or fans to see if they’re properly cleaned. Be on the lookout for any small pipe leaks and bugs’ nests that are rampant in hot weather. Have your garden summer-ready with a little prepping and a routine scheduled. Set up alarms and automatic solar lights close to your home so that your place will be lighted up, making burglars or deviants think twice before messing with your home. Turn your gas off and unplug other appliances to save energy and consider cleaning your fridge a few days before leaving.

There’s no better way to enjoy the season or any particular season than having a worry-free mind and keeping one step ahead with all the preparations that need your time and effort.
