Wil Dasovich, Alex Wassabi, Filharmonic: Fil-Am YouTubers make it as Shorty Awards finalists

The annual Shorty Awards, which recognizes the best in social media, has released the names of the finalists for its 10th year.

Filipino-American YouTubers are among the influencers who made it as finalists under Team Internet after online votes for nominees ended on Feb. 22.

Wil Dasovich and Alex Wassabi are both in the running for Vlogger of the Year.

Dasovich, 26, gained a following for his travel vlogs. In 2017, he bravely documented his journey with stage 3 cancer and hit over a million subscribers before the year ended.

Alex Wassabi (real name: Alex Burris) is behind Wassabi Productions, which has over 10 million subscribers.

Burris, 27, shows the joy in everyday life with his light-hearted humor and positivity, whether he’s featuring his family and girlfriend or taking on online challenges.

A cappella singers The Filharmonic is a finalist for YouTube Musician. The talented group consists of five Fil-Ams based in LA: Jules Cruz (vocal bass), Joe Caigoy (tenor), Trace Gaynor (tenor), Niko del Rey (beat boxer) and VJ Rosales (tenor).

After making it to the semifinals of the singing competition “The Sing-Off”, the singers have kept a capella cool with a cameo in “Pitch Perfect 2” and join James Corden and Hollywood celebrities in “The Late Late Show.”

The awards show will be held on April 15 in New York. Congratulations to all the finalists!  /ra
