Sense and Style: 9 Spring Trends

With spring coming full-swing anytime soon, nothing can be more exciting than a wardrobe change! But a winter-spring transition doesn’t have to be drastic. While some cold-weather outfits are once again moving to the back of your closet, some fashion pieces are versatile enough to nail a timeless spring look!

Jumpsuit/rompers

Two words that describe one-piece clothes like jumpsuits and rompers are “classy and simple.” After the “layering” season, the idea of a throw-on-and-go outfit is definitely an inviting one. The many options of this one-piece outfit vary from trousers and shorts to skort (skirt and short in one), that’s appropriate in the office, brunches, picnics, travels, etc. (basically any occasion!). The only real challenge when wearing these outfits are the bathroom trips, but that’s what bathroom stalls are for. Wide-pant jumpsuits, for example, allow you to sit with your legs open, enjoy a bike ride around town, and (when coupled with a blazer) can give your office outfit a trendy feel.

Dress

Nothing makes a woman bloom better in the springtime than a dress with pretty prints, whether it’s a mini, maxi, or midi dress. While dresses can be worn during the cold season (paired with thermal undies and leggings), springtime really lets ladies appreciate them more with their vibrant prints colors with less restricting layers. A dress is a wardrobe essential that makes transitioning from any season (whether at work or at play) a breeze.

Belted trousers

Relaxed and fashionable while not limiting your movement — a pair of flowing pants (printed or plain) is a springtime must-have for fashionable females out there. Match that high-waist chic, which usually comes in floor-length or Capri, with a fitted cropped top along with a denim jacket and you’re all set for a stroll in town on a fine day.  If denim isn’t your thing, try a light-knitted cardigan.

Sneakers

Time to give those boots a break and bring out those comfy, casual sneakers. While ladies can still strut in a pair of booties matched with a pretty floral, the new season welcomes a more active lifestyle outdoors; thus the need for comfort to go along with style. For the gents, chukka/desert boots look stylish on a retro or minimalist fashion while lightweight runners, skater shoes, and leather kicks keep things light.

Hoodie

Because it is a staple of any casual wardrobe while exuding an athleisure vibe, the hoodie is one of the trendiest fashion items out there! Don’t underestimate the surprising power of these cloth jackets to make fashion statements: zip-up hoodies under a leather jacket or unstructured suits paired with casual trousers give a sharp yet active contrast to semi-formal looks.

Trench coat

Springtime still brings rain clouds here and there, and while a hoodie can shield your head, the iconic yet timeless camel-colored trench coat does a good job of covering the body. This fashion staple is the perfect add-on to any outfit (for both men and women) in any season and activity.

Lightweight knitwear

Don’t be deceived, this season doesn’t always promise bright and warm days ahead. With the cold winds still blowing under the spring sun, some lightweight knitwear is a good thing to have in your wardrobe even after the winter season. Donning a breathable top that retains warmth is an on-point fashion and seasonal transition move.

Chinos

Goodbye winter, hello spring! Show a bit of ankle while also trying to look sharp this season with a casual pair of chinos. These pants are super versatile and work well with any top. Whether it’s worn with a plain white shirt or a polo with bold colors and prints, they’re a top staple in every fashionable gentleman’s wardrobe.

Loafers

A casual, warm-weather wardrobe needs to give off a smart and classy look. With your black boots returning to the back of your closet, loafers will finally have their chance to adorn your feet. Be warned, however, that strutting those suede loafers during spring and summer will require protection from moisture at all times.

When it comes to fashion, you do you. It’s not necessary to shop for every season if you’re able to mix and match pieces you already have. It can be a fun thing to do. Whether you dress up or dress down, it all comes down to what makes you feel comfortable.
